I have lived with dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions for all of my life. When I started digital photography in 2007 it was only natural that dogs were at the centre of my image making. My first models, Lemmy (a Rottie Cross) and Poppy (a retired Greyhound) gave me valuable lessons in what works and what doesn’t when they were in front of the camera. I started taking photos at a local dog training school and found that people really liked my work, soon after www.TheDogPhotographer.co.uk was established. Since then I have taken thousands of pictures of hundreds of dogs ranging from the timid to the “full on”, the small (Lily the Papillion) to the huge (Sophie the Great Dane). Puppies and elder states-dogs have featured as well as Agility champions. I have supported a local dog rescue centre with an annual Calendar and then Christmas Card shoot which was really special for me. Meeting many different dogs of all shapes and sizes and then getting to know them is one of the best parts of this job. Being able to photograph dogs whether in action, playing or posing is both tremendous fun and very rewarding. Over the years the two most important things my models have taught me is that volumes of patience and a supply of tasty treats will – usually – help capture those all important images that will be treasured for years to come. I live near Biggleswade with my wife Julie (who is a dog trainer & behaviourist), canine companions Maisie, Quiff and Twiggy. The handsome one in the image is my boy Quiff | |
