I have news! The Dog Photographer is heading south!
Yes that’s right. Quite unexpectedly and rather suddenly, I am due to move home, down to the beautiful Channel Island of Guernsey.
This is a decision that my wife and I have made following a wonderful opportunity to live and work on this beautiful island. Unfortunately, this means that my current photographic schedules on the mainland are now on hold and I am not taking any more commissions. Whether or not I am able to continue photographing dogs full time in Guernsey is another matter. There is some outstanding scenery and the Islanders love their dogs just as much as we all do here on the mainland, but I have not yet decided whether or not I will be continuing this work on a full time basis. Watch this space!
In the meantime, I will be continuing to post images from shoots I have before I depart in the summer. Once settled in Guernsey I will keep the site updated with any new developments.
I have had such a wonderful time working with so many beautiful, interesting, hilarious, loving dogs (and their owners). I would like to thank each and every one of you for all the support and encouragement I have received. It has been a real privilege for me to work for you all. Thank you!
Guernsey, here I come!

I like to support my local Dogs Trust dog rescue centre by giving a free Portrait Experience to anyone who adopts a dog through the branch. I then donate 10% of anything that new dog owners purchase back to the Dogs Trust to help with their work.
One such dog, only a few months out of the rescue home is Willow.
We aren’t too sure of his story… only that he was found wandering the streets and was brought into the rescue centre in the hope of finding a good home. Thankfully he did, with his new loving owner, Shirley.
Willow is adorable. He’s one of those dogs that has so much affection to give. He really made an impression on me as he climbed up onto the chair next to me and lay himself across my lap. I’m delighted he has such a wonderful new home and somewhere that appreciates him and will care for him as he gets used to some stability and a roof over his head each night. Meet Willow.

Thanks Shirley for a wonderful shoot and for allowing me to meet Willow in his new loving home.

In case you don’t know about it, Macromutt is a website from the US which was created to help connect dog lovers with professional dog photographers in their area.
Chris at MacroMutt got in touch and offered to include my site. I’m the first dog photographer from the UK to be on there! Thank you Chris !
As a direct result, I’m already receiving some great comments from other photographers, but it’s so good to be able to see what other dog photographers in the States are doing with their work. There are some really talented individuals out there with some really inspirational work.

I had such a fun shoot with Digger! He has a larger than life personality and loves to be involved with EVERYTHING going on around him. He was so funny. Once he got the message that I had treats, he was into everything..! My camera bag, my pockets… rooting around with that big snaffly nose (yeah.. I know.. ”snaffly” isn’t a real word.. but if you met Digger, you would understand)
The shoot was such a fun time and Digger behaved so well. I have especially fond memories of the images with Digger posing at the birdbath. He looks all nicely behaved and posed, but a second later everything headed south as Digger knocked the birdbath flying and proceeded to get his face in my pocket for another treat!
You can read some kind comments from Digger’s Mum & Dad at the testimonials page here: Testimonials
Here are just a few images from the day….

The lull before the storm.. moments after this shot, Digger demolished the birdbath!

We had such a great shoot. Elaine & Gavin - thank you so much. I hope you are enjoying the wonderful coffee table book and prints you chose. Digger is a star!
I really enjoyed working with Eric & Jasper, but it took Eric a little time to trust me fully. He was so nervous, yet so very gentle. After a little while of talking with his mum, Eric decided I was ok and came over to where I was sitting, stood up onto the chair next to me, and gave me the opportunity (or indeed, the permission) to gently stroke his chest. Something I’ve always known, almost instinctively, is to give a nervous dog the space to get to know you on his terms, and Eric did just that. Jasper, quite the character, had no such hang ups and was readily lounging about and being petted. Working with Eric & Jasper was such a rewarding experience, especially as we were able to achieve so many wonderful shots. Helen wrote “Philip interacted with the dogs confidently, in a relaxed and natural manner, with no pressure put on the dogs (or the owner!) The end result was a fantastic range of great quality photos that captured the dog’s individual personalities.”
